Specific Case Assignments (Individualized Representation)
CASE #1: (A woman needs assistance in a homeownership matter. She lost her job and while seeking employment she has been sued in foreclosure.
CASE #2: A woman needs probate assistance as her husband passed away.
CASE #3: A woman needs probate assistance as her father passed away.
CASE #4: A man believes he was terminated wrongfully after his position was almost immediately filled by a new hire employee.
CASE #5: A woman living solely on SSI was sued by a third party debt collector in Dayton Municipal Court and has defenses that can be raised.

Group Client Opportunities
Divorce: With full support from GDVLP paralegals, represent up to 8 individuals seeking uncontested divorces. Requires 6-8 hours of volunteerism. No prior domestic relations experience required. Available in all seven Counties served by the GDVLP (Montgomery, Champaign, Clark, Darke, Greene, Miami and Preble)
Bankruptcy: With full support from GDVLP paralegals, represent up to 4 individuals seeking to file for bankruptcy protection. Requires 6-8 hours of volunteerism and a license to practice in the Southern District of Ohio. Available in all seven Counties served by the GDVLP (Montgomery, Champaign, Clark, Darke, Greene, Miami and Preble)
Employment: Provide counsel and advice to individuals with employment-related issues. If ongoing representation is appropriate you decide whether to provide assistance or the GDVLP will find another volunteer to assist. Scheduling available at your convenience at our offices in Downtown Dayton.
Probate: Provide counsel and advice to individuals with probate-related issues and ongoing representation if necessary and appropriate. Scheduling available at your convenience at our offices in Downtown Dayton.
Guardianship: Provide representation for staff at Life Essentials, a local non-profit, to be appointed guardian (of the ward only) over indigent individuals in our community who are incapacitated and unable to make their own medical decisions and have no family members willing to do so for them.
Clinic Opportunities
Debt Collection: Spend about 3 hours either providing “triage” counsel and advice or assisting with the preparation of documents for filing pro se in debt defense matters, using our programmed templates. There is a role for subject matter experts and novices alike.
Juvenile Court Pro Se Forms Completion: Spend about 2 hours assisting in the preparation of pleadings for custody, support, visitation and other matters. No prior experience needed.

We are also seeking volunteers with HotDocs template experience to aid in the creation of new templates (and update ones currently in use) to continue providing pro bono legal services to those in the Miami Valley area of lesser means. We use HotDocs for everything! All our letters to clients, all the pleadings we draft, can only happen because HotDocs makes it easy and efficient for staff and volunteers to serve.
